Reiki

Reiki is a simple and natural healing technique, rediscovered at the end of 19th century by Dr. Mikao Usui, who developed the healing method as its still used today by the name reiki.
When using reiki we transfer universal life energy for healing. ‘Rei’ Means light. ‘Ki’ means energy.Practitioners can channel the Universal energy, or Reiki, to connect with and direct its healing light for therapeutic purposes. Each practitioner becoming a channel of this universal energy to deliver it to another living being. Once the practitioner become the channel of the energy, they feel concentrated life energy flowing through their arms and hands of its own accord, and they retain the ability for the rest of the life. It can be learnt by anyone who is open and willing to let this healing energy flow through them.

History and origin of Reiki

The origin of reiki goes back to ancient Buddhist scriptures, in which a Japanese priest, Dr. Mikao Usui, discovered the symbols and mantras, the formula and key, that become the root and foundation of the Reiki healing system. After fasting and meditating on a sacred mountain, he entered a state of heightened consciousness. In this state, the meanings and applications of symbols and mantras became clear to him, while he simultaneously felt infused with a powerful healing energy. Thus the usui system of reiki was born.

Usui’s story

One day, senior students challenged Usui, asking if he believed in Jesus’s healing miracles and could teach them. Inspired by the question, Usui dedicated years to discovering how figures like Jesus and Buddha healed. He studied Christian and Buddhist scriptures, learned Sanskrit to read original Buddhist texts, and spent time in a Buddhist monastery. There, an abbot encouraged him to meditate, leading him closer to the answers he sought.

Enlightenment

Usui, after a 21-day meditation and fast on Mount Kurama near Kyoto, achieved enlightenment on the final day. He saw symbols from Buddhist scriptures and received a powerful healing energy. As a shining light struck his Third Eye, he entered a heightened state of consciousness, witnessing golden Sanskrit symbols that resonated deeply with him.

Healing

While descending a mountain, Usui injured his foot. Placing his hands around the wound, he found that the bleeding and pain stopped instantly. Realizing this miraculous healing power, he named it Reiki. Usui then used this energy to heal others, eventually opening a Reiki clinic in Tokyo in 1922. Following a major earthquake in 1923, he taught the Reiki technique to many followers, making it widely accessible to help people in need.
